Canadian Government Prioritizes Welfare of Imported Puppies

It is with excitement and great hope that we share the CFIA’s announcement about the Federal Government’s introduction of new import rules for commercial dogs less than 8 months old. PIJAC Canada fully supports the amended legislation. This is the most significant change in dog importation rules in over two decades and a big step forward in animal protection for Canada. We commend the CFIA and their partners on their thorough research and strategic evolution of this legislation.  Rest assured the work does not stop here, the CFIA will monitor and gather data over the next months evaluating the impact of these changes.  The regulation goes a long way to improving the safety of transportation and the welfare of these animals coming into Canada.  Today is a win for dogs and the beginning of a new direction for animal importation in this country.
