GLOBAL’S ST. JOHN’S TEAM STEPS UP TO SUPPORT RESCUE NL’S ‘OPERATION ANNIE’

St. John’s, NL – Global Pet Foods NL and their staff mobilized in a big way to support Rescue NL’s Operation Annie, helping bring 68 neglected and abused puppies and dogs from Northern Manitoba to loving foster homes in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Global Pet Foods NL makes it their mission to support pets in need, partnering with animal rescue organizations like Rescue NL throughout the year by hosting fundraisers and adoption events, donating food and supplies, and helping offset costs of essentials. When Heather Ballard of Rescue NL reached out to Nicole McDonald, sales manager at Global’s St. John’s store, Nicole and the staff offered their full support for Operation Annie.

Operation Annie was inspired by and named after a dog rescued from Manitoba in October 2021. Annie was found shot
several times and beaten so badly that her shoulder and leg were shattered and had to be amputated. Rescuing and caring
for Annie motivated Heather to take Rescue NL’s efforts to Manitoba and bring 68 dogs, including 2 pregnant pooches to
loving homes in NL.

Heather Ballard from Rescue NL shares: “There’s a lot of pet stores in St. John’s, but Global goes above and beyond. [...] Like they say with children, it takes a village: it is with animals as well.”

Nicole and staff volunteers from Global Pet Foods put forth an incredible effort to set up a temporary shelter, receive the
dogs from the airport, arrange emergency transportation, and set up a quarantine shelter. Volunteers helped receive foster applications as well as care for and walk the animals each day, with several Global Pet Foods staff, Nicole included,
welcoming dogs and puppies into their homes.

“Many of our staff gave their time, even giving up sleep in the middle of the night, to support Rescue NL. [. . .] In-store we’ve collected funds, offered a chance to win free Acana pet food for a year through a raffle, used the store as a drop-off location for supplies that were needed, and helped cover some of the costs of supplies needing to be purchased,” shared Josh Blinder, co-owner of Global Pet Foods NL. “We know, by partnering with Rescue NL, that animals in need are getting to go to their forever homes. They will become part of someone’s family and will receive so much love and care!”

Global Pet Foods NL’s next fundraising effort is the annual Show Us Your Heart campaign, taking place from Friday, February 11th until Sunday, February 27th at their Torbay Road location in St. John’s. Every time a customer makes a donation, Global will donate an additional $1.
